The Turn-Key Story

Our Start, Curt and Alice Blevins

“Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life.” – Amy Poehler

With much gratitude, a special thank you goes out to Curt and Alice Blevins who co-founded and co-funded Turn-Key Tunneling Inc. from the beginning, in August 2005. Their 110% dedication and commitment have been invaluable to the continued growth and prosperity of the company, impacting the lives of all Turn-Key families with two decades of admirable milestones and achievements. The Blevins’ leadership, contributions and unwavering commitment have been a guiding light and driving force behind our success. They will always hold a special Key to the heartbeat of the Turn-Key Tunneling Family.

Our Meaning
By definition Turn-Key illustrates “ready for immediate use” as we strive to complete every project to our customer’s satisfaction.

Lay the Groundwork
Rewinding back, a list of equipment at the end of Turn-Key’s first tax year of December 2005 included the following:

  1. 8×15 Storage Container
  2. Little Giant Crane – Crab Pot
  3. Little Giant Crane – Ms. Marie
  4. Little Giant Crane – Sassy
  5. 8×40 Storage Container
  6. Grouter / Airplaco
  7. Solaris Gas Detector
  8. American Augers 42” Machine
  9. 42” Boring Head
  10. 42” Boring Head

Yep – That’s it!! – Ten inauguration items totaled all the equipment possible to purchase from the limited amount of borrowed money authorized to get approved from the bank. The downcast part about this list, one of the cranes – Sassy – would not travel under its own power. All that great equipment really prepared us for an extremely tough market in 2007-2009, in which we saw several great companies go out of business due to the downturn in the economy. We survived, have completed over 700 contracts since startup and excited for many more projects in the ripple to hook onto.

Our Reputation
Brian Froehlich, an experienced professional engineer and tunneling expert, realized that our designs and methods would fill a niche in the ever advancing tunneling industry.

For over 20-years Turn-Key has evolved and grown to become a reputation leader willing to take on work throughout the U.S. We love a challenge and are known for our ability to solve complex tunneling issues.

Our Future

Since January 1, 2019, all employees share in the financial and operational success as an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) allowing all vested employees to benefit as owners and shareholders.

The ESOP complements our core belief that people are our most important asset. As employee owners, we all benefit even more now from our commitment to customer service and providing quality work that meets and exceeds customer expectations.

Our Key
Beliefs

Our work is dangerous and we accept this fact by being prepared for the unexpected. We adhere to follow the best practices and procedures so our employees and our families can rest assured every minute of every day that we arrive home safe with a job properly done.

Our most valuable asset are our people. It’s our belief in team effort that makes us a top-tiered tunneling company. We take an open communication approach to listen to every team player respectfully. Great ideas are always encouraged!

Our successful endeavors start with our team and the support of our family but, it doesn’t end there. It relies on our trusted relationships with our many partners and affiliates with whom we share our success and mutual respect.

In our line of work challenges are a daily occurrence. It’s the nature of what we do and our team are people who enjoy a challenge. When one arises, we take our problem solving approach as an opportunity to find a better way. From re-engineering, new designs and good communication we often devise new approaches that save the day and typically the budget too.

Each new challenge and accomplishment feels great and we rejoice on a job safely done with our affiliates and partners satisfied. No doubt, we reward our team and enjoy in celebration but, we are always driven to the next opportunity to show what we can do.

We have a reputation for creative solutions for the toughest of challenges with safety priority #1. We are prepared and ready to analyze, engineer and design new strategies that often save time and money.
